Calathidia multiflora, homogama. Anthodium subcampanulatum, biseriale , polyphyllum,
squamulis herbaceis inæqualibus adpressis imbricatis 3-v. 4-serialibus brevibus calyculatum,
delapsis achæniis reflexum; foliola subæqualia, erecta, herbacea, membranaceo-marginata,
striatula, sub anthesi planiuscula et ecarinata, postea dorso carinata, facie secus basin excavata
et achænia peripherica subincludentia. R eceptaculum disciforme, planiusculum v. sub-
concavum, nudum, glabrum, reticulato-areolatum. Corollæ fiavæ, interiores sensim bre-
viores; tubus filiformis; ligula sublinearis, apice truncato inæquiprofunde quinquedentato.
Stamina ligula breviora. F ilamenta brevissima, glaberrimk, capillaria, articulo antherifero
subincrassato. Antheræ lineares, concretæ, basi breve sagittato-auriculatæ, auriculis subin-
tegerrimis; appendices-apicilares membranacei, brevissimi, rotundati, liberi. Stylus stamina
subæquans, capillaris, secus apicem sursum hirtellus. Stigmata capillari-filiformia, obtusa,
exserta, elongata, retrorsum arcuata, dorso marginibusque puberula. Ovarium subcolum-
nare, subteres, 4-v. 5-costatum, tuberculosum, glabrum, breve rostratum, floribus periphe-
ricis subincurvum et modo papposum modo calvum , floribus disci rectum v. subrectum et
constanter papposum. Pappus e disci-apicilaris annularis ambitu intern© ortus, persistens,
sordide albidus, uniformis, elongatus (floribus periphericis interdum brévissimus rudimentarius,
constans e paleojis 10 biserialibus, æqualibus, rigidis, subcartilagineis, e conspicue
dilata ta (ovata v, ovato-lanceolata) basi setaceo-subulatis, longe plumosis (basi excepta)
simulque crebre denticulatis. Achænia teretia v. subteretia, subfusiformia, 4-v* 5-costata
totidemque-sulca, costis æqualibus uniformibus contiguis crassiusculis ecarinatis laxius
densiusve transverse squamelloso-rugulosis cum sulcis alternantibus, aut omnia conformia
in rostrum filiforme continuum elongatum disco cupulari pappigero superatum attenuata,
aut dissimilia : peripherica nempesuberostria calvaque v. pappo rudimentario coronata, re-
liqua in rostrum pappigerum producta. Achænia peripherica (sive rostrata sint sive ero-
stria) 5-costata, subincurva, achæniis disci plus minusve minora et tardius decidua. Achænia
disci recta v. subrecta, 4-costata, caduca, ab extimis ad intima gradatim longius rostrata.
Areola-basilaris concava, centro stipitulata, achæniis periphericis 5-crenulata, achæniis
disci 4“Crenulata.
Plantæ annuæ, multicaules (nisi hebetatæ), glabræ v. pilis simplicibus rigidulis hirtæ, ha-
bitu Oporiniæ v. Thrinciæ. Caules ascendentes v. subdiffusi, simplices, monocephali, v. su-
pra medium parce ramosi, aphylli, v. nonnisi adramorum originem foliigeni.Rami peduncu-
liformes, aphylli, elongati, apice fistuloso-clavati et sparse bractpolati, præfloratione (si-

Planta Thrinciæ hirtæ v. etiam macrioribus Oporiniæ autumnalis speciminibus simillima, annua, pluri-caulis, modo

v. jam a medio squamulis sparsis remotis minutis herbaceis ovato-lanceolatis v. e dilatata basi subulatis iustructi), teretes,
striatuli, simplicissimi, i-cephali (raro superne bifurcati, ramulis i-cephalis), sub calathidio turbinato-listulosi. Folia
i-3 pollices longa, omnia radicalia, conferta, rosulata, petiolata (nunc longius nunc brevius), tenuia, viridia, modo
pinnatipartita v. profunde pinnatifida v. runcinata, modo runcinato-v. sinuato-dentata v. siûuato-crenata, lanceolata,
modo spathulato-v. lanceolato-obovata v. spathulato-oblonga et remote dentata v. denticulata imoque subintegerrima ;
segmenta æqualia v. inæqualia, linearia v. lineari-lanceolata v. lanceolato-linearia v. lanceolata v. deltoidea, plerumque
integerrima et (simulac dentes) cartilagineo-mucronulata. Petiolus planiusculus, gracilis, marginatus, basi dilatatus et
submembranaceus. Calathidia solitaria, terminalia. A nthodium 4-5 lineas longum, floribus dimidio brevius, çalyculi
squamulis intimis paulo longius; foliola oblongo-lanceolata, obtusiuscula, nunc margine excepto glaberrima, nunc ex tus
hirtella v. pubescentia v. floccoso-tomentosa ; interna externis subdimidio angustiora. Çalyculi squamulæ 9-12, glabræ v.
simili modo ac anthodii foliola hirtellæ aut subtomentosæ, obtusiusculæ ; exteriores ovatæ v. ovato-lanceolatæ, minutæ;
interiores oblongo-lanccolatæ. Corollæ glabræ, floribus periphericis circiter 5 lineas longæ; tubus ligula subsemel brevior;
ligula secus basin sensim angustata; dentes acuti, apice concavi, callosi. Stamina ligula subtriplo breviora. Pappus sub
anthesi corollæ tubum superans, achænio maturo subæquilongus v. paulo brevior; paleolæ basi ovato-v. oblongo-lanceolatæ
ibidemque marginibus imbricatæ. A chænia nigro-fusca v. castanea, pmnia papposa et longe rostrata, cum rostro (pappo
autem haud computato) circiter 3 lineas longa, peripherica interioribus paululo breviora. (Exam. s. sp).
