PLATE I. and II.
CAMELLIA CHANDLERII.
I n introducing a family of Plants, by which we hope to obtain a
profitable remuneration, it is obviously our interest to identify ourselves
with them, and this being the most prized, is named after Mr.
Ch a n d ler . The colour is a vivid scarlet, almost as bright as a
Nasturtium, broken with occasional splashes of the purest white, which
vary as much, in their relative proportions, as the Two Drawings, No. I.
and No. II. indicate. The long duration of the flower is highly gratifying.
The bloom which formed the subject of No. I. was exhibited at
the Horticultural Society’s Rooms, and remained in full beauty six
weeks, during which time the plant was twice carried to London. The
foliage is of the darkest glossy green, and independent of the beauty of
the flower, forms an attractive evergreen.
