Peristomium Hypni,
Sir James Smith considers the capsule of this moss as cer-
nuous ; and so it is in some degree from the inflexion of the fruitstalk
in a dry state, but when moist it will be found to be erect.
From the same learned botanist I also beg leave to diifer respecting
the genus of this plant. I must however confess, that I have
not seen its calyptra, and that my opinion is therefore formed
merely from its habit, which approaches in many points that of
Leskea ericoides. (T a b . XXVIH.)
