IT has been thought proper, in order that this
work may not be fwelled with unncceiTary fy-
nonyms, that the plants defcribed in the Species
Plantarum and the two Mantiifa’s of the elder
Linnseus, ihould fimply be referred to thofe books,
with the addition only o f references to the works
o f Jacquin, Curtis, L ’Heritier, and the Flora
Roflica.
T h e Supplementum Plantarum o f the younger
Linnseus was not publiflied till great progrefs had
been made in compiling this Catalogue j plants
that were inferted in it before the time of that publication,
will therefore frequently be found to have
the fame fynonyms as are given in it j all that have
been added fince are referred to it in the fame
manner as others are to the works o f the Father; but
errors which too frequently occur in the Son’s publication,
are, wherever they have been difcovered,
correiled.
