to end of tail, 3 ft. 3 in. He mentions the skin of a lioness (l’ba) seen
some years ago at Casablanca, and attributes the monarch to the sterile
plateaus of Tddla, Ait Shokhman, Beni M’gild, A'it Attar, etc. The skin
of the hyena inspires terror in domestic animals, and in famine years it
has been known to attack human beings.
In Northern Morocco, by agreement between the native authorities and
the foreign representatives, a close season for game has been ordered,
from Feb. 1 to Aug. 15. Anyone shooting hares or partridges between
those dates, or selling partridge eggs at any time, is liable to be fined.
