* I am much indebted to Dr. Bianchi for lending me the MSS. of a Hand-list
of the Parides, which he has since published. This saved me much time and labour,
especially with the Palæarctic species, the geographical distribution of which has been
carefully worked out by Dr. Bianchi. Dr. Hellmayr’s excellent Monograph in the
‘ Tierreich ’ appeared after the present work had been set up in type, and I have only
been able to add a few quotations.
