 AGARICUS Cossus.
T h e higheft parts of Peckham Wood, Surre^^, produce
this fpecies annually about OcStober, where I have
always found it in great plenty iince the year 1792. It is
alfo to be found in other woods. The pilous is covered
with a gluten, which conftantly gives a ftrong goatlike
odour, exadtly refembling the wounded larva of
Phcel. Coffus. When this gluten is dried by the wind,
the fcent ftill remains on the hand that has touched it,
for many hours. In colour and fhape this Agaric varies
but little from the figure here given.

 AGARICUS ALBELLUS. Sch^eff. tab. 78.
 T h i s is not a comrcion plant, nor have I found it
more than twice. It furely is the fame fpecies as quoted
above, varying a little in the proportion, See. It is very
flefliy and folid from the pileus to the root; the gills
are very narrow. I have found it greyifli, but the
prefent fpecimen was nearly white where it was not
bruifed ; the bruifes were reddifli.

 AGARICUS DEALBATUS.
T h IS little elegant fpecies is often found under a canopy
of firs, fome with partly conical, and fome with
undulating or waving tops, in different proportions,
dancing, as it were, in rings and mazes arrayed in virgin
 white.
