PLENTIFUL in moft of the woods near London, &c.
in the autumnal months. Thefe fungi are of an opaque
woody texture : the faux is flightly undulated, forming
imperfeft reticulations, which on the outer fide are
covered with a greyifli powder refembling the bloom
on fruit.

I N woods about London, &c. in autumn, but not very
common. Sometimes it has a yellowifli border or
fringe. I have found a more camofe fort near it, which
appears to me a variety ; though further experience
may evince the contrary.

OCCASIONALLY a very common plant, particularly
in pine groves, cluftering and often forming very large
circles. Sometimes it grows erefl:, and the whole furface
is fmooth ; more generally cracked and diftorted,
or affuming variety of appearances. See SchoefFer's
A. multiformis, tab. 14. undoubtedly afportive variety.

O N flumps of hornbeam, &c. not very common,
fometimes 24 inches in circumference. 1 have generally
found it in September, varying but httle in colour
or other refpefts. I believe it but little known in the
perfeft ftate, and perhaps a variety of this may be
the A. pilojus of Withering, 295, confounded with
A. floccofus, which I can fliew by fpecimens to be a
diftina plant. May not this be SchsfFer's A. objcurus
alfo

I HAVE many dried fpecimens of this plant, and
cannot agree with Dr. Withering, that it is the fame
fpecies with P. epidendra.
