The Author's Reason for taking a Voyage tothe Tropes, and particularly
to Surinam.

Y a u R very obliging letter, which I received by the favour of
Mr. P. gave me the greatest satisfaction, as,it eootained the pleas*
mg intelligence of your continuing to improve in your health,
which I hope your journey to the sea coast will fully restore.

will make him. acquainted with the best soefeties in this hospitable

have a complete account of this place from Mr. P. and
therefore I proceed to answer you® kind letter,

voyage to Surinam; and you ate of ©pinion* if 1 think to increase
my fortune there, it is not in the present fifisis affairs a proper
time to expect much success. I ag^e-perfectly with you; ye^in
going to Surinam, I hope t© gain' what is preferable to the greatest
fortune, nay to life itself—the recovery of my health.
