The four foUowing excellent plates will be very acceptable to Conchologists, as th ey contain figures of several
species (about twenty) which, u n til the present time, have been known only b y descriptions, in some instances very
sh o rt and insufficient, and also th e more interesting as, in thirty-one instances, th e actu al type specimens are delineated.
Pla te s 1 to 3 are devoted exclusively to species belonging to th e New Zealand fauna. F our of them are new to
science, and three, described some years since, are unrecorded in Von M artens’ very useful “ Critical L ist of the
Mollusca of New Zealand.”
P la te 4 includes, w ith one exception {Helix 'figures of some A u stra lian Land and Freshwater Mollusca
of which two appear to be as y e t undeseribed.
A ll the species w ith th e exception of Bulimies auiipodum an d Vermetus cariniferus are in th e British Museum,
and those preceded by a * were presented by Sir Jo h n Eichardson, M.D., F.E.S.
