to comprehend such Orchidacese as would have been referred to Oncidium if they had had a lobed
labellum. In this view,of the, character, the genus becomes little more than an artificial dismemberment
of Oncidium, and I am by no means sure that it can be preserved in its present state, especially
as many of the species have all thé habit of Oncidium proper. It is however impossible to form any
fixed opinion upon the subject in the present state of our information, and therefore I abstain
upon this occasion from doing more than describing the present very remarkable species,
whose large spathacep.us bracts possibly afford (a .surer chapter fio,r ,a genus than any thing in the
 .flower itself.
Cyrtochilum pardinum and ixioides ought rather to be referred to Odontoglossum along with
 Cyrtochilum volubile of Poppig.
