SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
PROTEA foliis multifidis, filiformibus, acutis,
pilosis : floribus in capitulis terminalibus,
lucidis, odoratis.
Habitat in Caput Bonse Spei.
PiiOTEA with many-cleft leaves, tliread-shaped,
pointed, and hairy : flowers grow in terminal
heads, shining, and sweet-scented.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.

T H I S species of Protea well deserves a place in any collection, as, in addition to its light and graceful
appearance, it is possessed of a most agreeable fragrance. There is a variation of it with white flowers,
but exactly the same in every other particular. It remains a considerable time in bloom, but not
many umbels of flowers are expanded at the same time. We have seen it in several collections. It is a
Cape species, and appears to be of easy culture.
