F or the discovery of this species we are indebted to the researches of M. Tschudi, it being one of the
novelties which rewarded his explorations of the interior of Peru, where he states it is to be met with in the
districts ranging between four and seven thousand feet above the level of the sea. It possesses many
characters in common with 0 . Guianensis and 0 . marmoratus, but is rendered conspicuously different from
both by the great size and the thickness of its bill, whence the specific name.
 Habitat. Peru.
The figures, which are a trifle less than the natural size, were taken from a specimen collected by
 M. Tschudi.
