From the servant of the High God, Mohammed El Ameen ben Mohammed El Kanemy, I To the pre-eminent above his equals, and the respected among his inferiors, the great King of the English, salutation be to him from us : “ Whereas your messengers, the travellers through the earth, for the purpose, as they state, of seeing and knowing its marvellous things, have come to us, we welcomed them, and paid attention to their arrival, in consequence of what we heard of your intercourse with the Mùslemeen, and the establishment of your friendly relations between you and their kings, since the time of your and their fathers and grandfathers (ancestors). “ We have thus regarded that friendship, and behaved to them according to its merits, as much as God the Omnipotent enabled us.
